Here's How to Fix Company File is Missing Error

Solution 1: Search the Company File on the System and move it to the original Company file folder

  • Press Windows + E to open Windows File Explorer and type .qbw in the search bar at the top.
  • Now right-click the company file and select Open File Location.
  • Copy the company file and paste it in to the original where it was saved earlier.
  • Open QuickBooks and try to access the company file now.


Solution 2: Run QuickBooks Database Server Manager


  • Click the Windows Start button and search QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Open the database server manager utility and click Start Scan.
  • Once the tool locates the company file, open QuickBooks and try to open the company file once again.

Solution 3: Move QuickBooks Company File to the Local Storage of the Computer


  • If you are using QuickBooks in multi-user environment, then you will need to move the copy the company file from the server to the workstation.
  • Using a removable storage device move the company file from the server computer's storage to the local storage of the workstation computer.
